Throughout the year the Ibiza Town Council organises activities designed for enjoyment of the island’s natural surroundings through a variety of active tourism modalities. For example, marine-based activities are designed for enjoyment of the seafront and the sea as instructive, educational environments that are dependent on coexistence.
These proposals include visits to the extensions of seagrass (posidonia oceanica), one of the sites included in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage declaration. This free activity is carried out in kayak on Saturdays and can be booked by sending an email to informacioturistica@eivissa.es or by calling 971 399 232.
Other proposals include beginner’s sessions in scuba diving, scubathlon, standup paddleboarding, windsurf, kayak and many other activities on the municipality’s three beaches, Talamanca, Ses Figueretes and Playa d’en Bossa. These activities are carried out in collaboration with companies such as Kayak Ibiza, Anfibios and Scuba Ibiza as well as the Ibiza Yacht Club Municipal Sailing School.
Throughout the year the Ibiza Municipal Sports Council also organises hiking tours designed for anyone over 12 years of age. The pace is very gentle so that all participants can enjoy the surroundings while exercising in the company of family and friends.
The Sports Council also organises cycling tourism routes through different parts of the municipality and the island. These take place in the autumn and winter months and are rated easy in an effort to attract the greatest number of participants.
The bicycle is also the star of Pedal Day (Día del Pedal), which is usually held in November and includes routes that take in Platja d’en Bossa and Talamanca. These sporting and leisure activities attract large numbers of participants.
On the 1st May celebrate one of the island´s most important sporting events of the year: the half marathon.
The practise of open air sports and activities is very popular on the island from November to March when temperatures are very mild.
